Lady Gaga had the last laugh after a Facebook group comprised of a dozen former college classmates declared that she would "never be famous."

The "now-deleted Facebook group" was "created by some of her classmates at New York University," Variety documented. The name of the page? "Stefani Germanotta, you will never be famous."

How wrong they were. The group has long since been deleted, while Gaga's star is rising even higher.

"Screenshots of the community, which calls Gaga out by her birth name, have circulated online among fans for several years now," the Variety writeup detailed.

Mother Monster herself chose to comment on the page, Variety said, posting a TikTok message in which "a screenshot of the 12-member Facebook group" stood in contrast "with a list of the star's many accolades, including an Academy Award, two Golden Globes, 13 Grammy Awards, 10 Billboard Music Awards and 18 MTV Music Video Awards."

The post was a teachable moment, with Gaga writing, "This is why you can't give up when people doubt you or put you down — gotta keep going."

"Gaga attended New York University's Tisch School of the Arts in the years before releasing her first studio album 'The Fame,'" Variety recalled. "She withdrew from NYU in 2005 and began to perform in New York clubs while developing her stage persona."

That persona opened the door not just to plenty of notoriety in the music world, but among fashionistas and cinema buffs, as well. Indeed, Variety noted, Gaga is set to star in next month's "Joker" sequel, "Joker: Folie à Deux," which is already garnering rave reviews.

The lesson? Perhaps it's simply this: Don't tell someone they will "never" gain the fame... especially if they have the talent.
