Queer Travel Guide to Miami

Miami has long been a favorite destination and hotspot for the LGBTQ+ community. With its flourishing queer community, diverse neighborhoods, vibrant nightlife, bars, and party scene, Greater Miami & Miami Beach makes visitors of all ages, orientations, and identities feel comfortable. So, start your visit at the LGBTQ+ Visitor Center — one of the first in the country — to find helpful information to enrich your vacation.

Our Great Outdoors

Miami is home to an array of pristine, tropical beaches, including two semi-official gay beaches: 11th/12th Street Beach and Haulover Park Beach. The 11th/12th Street Beach is perfect for those in search of a party vibe, rainbow flags, and an iconic lifeguard station. Haulover Park Beach is one of the best naturist beaches in the world and is famously the only beach with a clothing-optional section in South Florida.

LGBTQ+ adventure seekers have much more to explore beyond the shore, with two National Parks and a variety of beautiful local and state parks perfect for hiking, biking, paddling, and more.

Nightlife and Bars

Whether it's Yes Ma'am Tuesdays at Black Bird, a party at a poolside bar, or a late night on the dance floor at Nathan's Beach Club, Greater Miami & Miami Beach's gay nightlife is always a good time. Some other popular spots include the South Beach nightlife mainstay Twist, Bar Gaythering, AxelBeach Bar, and the lively Latin Azucar Nightclub. There's truly no shortage of fun in Miami and Miami Beach.

Twist:
This Miami mainstay is the hottest and longest-running gay club in Miami. The nightclub continues to redefine queer nightlife and provides a friendly environment that welcomes patrons from all over the world. Twist is open seven days a week from 1 pm. to 5 am, and is one of the few places you can find go-go dancers at midnight on the beach.

The interior keeps the hotel's original bohemian spirit of the '40s alive and was even recognized with the Merit Award of Excellence for Historic Preservation & Restoration 2020 by AIA Florida due to its sensitivity to the original design and the preservation of original elements.

From beach days to airboat tours, there's no shortage of outdoor adventure. In addition, there are plenty of world-class museums to explore, including the Miami Children's Museum on Watson Island, which hosts "Rainbow Families Day" for all children to celebrate Pride and diversity.
