PopUps: Joe Jonas Says He 'Accidentally' Went to a Gay Club
In a new interview, pop star Joe Jonas told PrideSource he "accidentally" went to a gay club for the first time in Europe, but knowingly went to a gay club with brother Nick Jonas just a few months ago.
When Joe was discussing his new disco-funk inspired EP "SWAAY" with his band DNCE, he was asked about the first time he visited a gay club.
"Well... I've accidentally gone to gay clubs before!" he told PrideSource. "I think that's happened to a few people. But, you know, it was cool. We went out with some of our friends who are gay. I just think we live in a world where obviously it's not a big deal -- it's fine -- and you can have fun wherever you go and make the best of it."
He said he ended up at the club while he was in Europe and "not being able to read any of the signs and just stumbling into what you think is a regular club."
"You're like, 'Oh, OK. Here we go,'" he added.
Joe said he was hit on but found the attention "flattering."
"I don't mind...if someone is nice," he continued. "And it's been cool to see at these concerts too. A lot of guys come out to the shows -- some gay guys as well -- and I love that."
But that wasn't the last time Joe hit up a gay club. He told PrideSource: "I went to a gay club with Nick [Jonas] a few months ago -- it was really fun!"
"And actually, I was really impressed by the DJ -- he played everything and was all over the map. His musicality was really great, and we just had a great time," he said.
Nick isn't a stranger to gay clubs and gay culture. Last year, he gave an impromptu strip tease at the New York City gay club BPM while promoting his single "Jealous." Since then, he's gone on to star in a few roles, playing gay characters like on "Kingdom" and Fox's "Scream Queens."
Joe's new project DNCE dropped its EP on Oct. 23. Check out the single "Cake by the Ocean" below.
